Letters and Questions
"The layout for Incarnations publication is a bit stale and plain." Heard and updated with this issue!
Main Content
Did you know: Magus archetype kit and path now have names!
All kits and paths will have names under the new character framework materials.
The 'kit' for the magus archetype is named "Wizard" and the 'path' for the magus archetype is named "Thaumaturge".
Obfuscating the Presence of Magical Effects
Obfuscation is the attempt to so finely weave an invocation that its presence is not noticed by those looking for it.
There are formulae in various methodology that can accomplish this after the fact, but a magus possessing the
Weaving Faculty can do it as the invocation is being done using their insight and powers alone.
The trait by itself is thus:
Weaving Faculty
Magic 4, [Skill] Mana Sense 1
This trait indicates that the possessor is able to discern more naturally the weave around them. In simplest terms, they gain +1 to their mana sense skill, or any other skill or power which relies on the perception of mana or its effects.
Obfuscation Common Mechanics: The magus makes a check against Lore: Occult, subtracting the Occult Factor
of the invocation. For each result category, it reduces the category of any Mana Sense check result.
The obfuscation applies until the targeted formulae ends.
Time: If the magi possesses a methodology skill level greater than 12 then it takes no additional time.
Otherwise, the invocation time is doubled.
Using Obfuscation in Play
Obfuscation adds yet another level of complexity in the arsenal of magic. Its easy for a player to use and remember but
it wont appear in play materials for GM's as its an optional component and outside the core or GMS material set.
GM's are strongly cautioned about bringing this into play as it could easily be abused or leverage in some unforseen manner.
Discuss with players limiting the mechanics and scope of application if the GM comfort level at adapting and responding on the fly
is not 100%.
Hiding - A Wizard's Obfuscation Powers
Requiremeents: Weaving Faculty, RSN 7+ and an base level of Mana Sense and Lore: Occult >8
Scope/Limits: Hiding works only against the Mana Sense skill - Locate the Weave will bypass any attempts to hide.
Masking - A Thaumaturge's Obfuscation Powers
Requiremeents: Weaving Faculty, RSN 9+ and an base level of Mana Sense and Lore: Occult >10
Scope/Limits: Masking works completely negating a normal Mana Sense skill check.
Locate the Weave must be used as if it were a Mana Sense skill check.
Rules Clarifications
- The Studious trait was rebalanced to remove extra CP.
- The multiverse page was updated to provide a complete overview.
