Incarna Goes 100% Free
From the publisher and owner, May 1st, 2010:
Due to family and life contraints, i've decided that Incarna [3.0 set] will be best served as an open system.
Previously, only the Core Mechanics content (Creative Commons licensed;
was available for free. Under the new business model, all content will be CC licensed and available at no cost for personal use.
This was not an easy choice but i do not see medical issues changing any time in the next decade, and so in order to simply get the system out there for anyone who may be interested,
the shortest path is to open the entire thing. Its a passion and a hobby, the materials would have been developed regardless...
may as well give the system an opportunity to be seen.
All the of the existing subscription materials, aside from play scenarios, will begin to be opened
for access and crawled by major search engines. Content that is already there will be cleaned for production presentation.
Content no ready and untested will be moved into the development version of the product. The developer functions
WILL remain closed for now.
Adventure scenarios will all transfer to Grim Badger, LLC. All of them were written by Kelly Berger, and 80% of
the recorded material already belongs to Grim Badger - this just transers any previous "adventures" to Kelly's personal
ownership.
This will not be a short process. About one supplment per week can be released - perhaps more. Each work must be cleaned
and flagged with creative commons license. You will also start to see web pages change to reflect this new approach.
I sincerely hope all those who have been with this for a long time continue to do so, especially since you don't have to pay anything any more *wink*.
Note that this is not the end of Incarna as a potential business. Free IS a legitimate business model.
Commericial use and, communities, advertising, and other elements can always be used to monetize users and traffice.
There WILL be some stuff which will not be accessible without a user account - which will continue to be free but just means that we want to
know about all those who are using it. Right now we are not selling, giving, or using demographic data or the users in any way, shape, or form.
We will never consider this in the future withou first anonymizing the data. No DOB, Name, email, IM, or identity based information will EVER
be used in any way.
